Are you choosing the right face cream based on your skin type?
We all have heard about typical categories of oily, dry and combination skin, but after reading this article you will surely rethink what 'Skin Type' actually means.
Knowing your skin type is critical as it drives everything about the type of products you should be using. Selecting incorrect skincare products can cause more problems than solve any for you.
For example, if you have dry skin, using the wrong products can make your dry, flaky skin worse. If you have acne prone skin, you must avoid products that will clog the pores or make it look oilier. Stay away from irritating ingredients such as menthol, thick and heavy occlusive emollients, artificial fragrance, abrasive scrubs and harsh cleansers.
So, How to Identify Your Real Skin Type?
First, stop using the chemical laden, products on your skin, then take a closer look after washing your face with a gentle cleanser, apply a toner and then wait about 15 to 30 minutes, to see how your skin behaves.
- If your skin quickly starts showing oil diffused over the face, you have oily skin.
- If your skin starts experiencing some dryness and feels tight, you have dry skin.
- If your T-zone (the area around your nose, chin, and central forehead) starts looking oily but your cheeks and jaw area start feeling moderately dry, you have a combination skin. This is very common, as we all have more oil glands in their centre of the face than on the cheeks.
What about sensitive skin?
Now-a-days everyone has slightly sensitive skin whether they know it or not. We all suffer the impact of environment, pollution, sun damage, ageing, makeup, and other health issues. All of this contributes to vulnerable and unpredictable skin behaviour. Therefore, we should only use natural, organic and gentle skin care products, that suits our skin type.
How to Choose the Right Products for Your Skin Type?
Now that you know your skin type, you can make better decisions about the products you should be using. Although, all skin types require same set of essential skincare staples, such as sunscreen, antioxidant, skin-replenishing ingredients, and skin-restoring ingredients. However, the ingredients and texture of these products vary based on your skin type.
Oily Skin
If you see a layer of oil popping up after a few hours of cleansing and wide pores, it is typically an oily skin.
We suggest you to select an an oil-free moisturiser, a light formula that conditions skin while keeping both hydration and oil levels balanced.
